Bobby McFerrin's "Vocabularies"

My admiration for Bobby McFerrin's artistry and sense of musical adventure just continues to grow year by year. This evening, I bought his new album, "Vocabularies," in its entirety on iTunes. Give a listen to the first tune, "Baby."

Jazz Calendar Updates

Tony "Doc" McCutchen sends word that he'll be wielding the sticks tomorrow evening (Wednesday) with Primetime Jazz at the Porterhouse Grill. First tune around seven. It won't be long before Doc heads back to Alabama for the fall semester, so catch him if you can.

Vocalist Mary Sigalas, who's been taking some time off, will be back at the microphone this Friday (July 23) from 8:00 to 9:30 pm, performing in Memorial Park's summer series. Joining Mary will be the Jake Mowrer Quartet, with Jake on guitar, Brent Weber on sax, Dennis Baraw on bass, and Todd Mueller on drums.

Calendar Update

Between songs Saturday morning at the Athens Farmers Market, I chatted with Jake Mowrer, and he let me know that his ensemble's performance at the Timothy Road DePalma's on July 22 will go curtain-up at 8:00 p.m. That means you folks who will be in town this coming week can catch Marty Winkler at the Hotel Indigo beginning at 6:00 p.m., then enjoy Jake's jazz with dinner at DePalma's.
